Iv’e been following E3 and Im mildly excited about the new consoles.
If you want to hear my totally un-biased, un-fangirl opinion about all the new shtuff…
The PS3 looks like a printer with the SpiderMan font on it, the XBOX 360 looks like an Alienware computer and the Nintendo Revolution reminds me of a computer battery, with no personality at all.

The thing that is currently prompting me to buy the Nintendo machine is the weird promess that we can play every single game ever produced for Nintendo, on their new console. From NES to 64.
Me, I’m drooling about all NES and SNES games at the tip of my paws on a big TV, just like God intended them to be, not on some computer monitor.
BUT, there better be a convincing reason for us to shell money to buy awfully bugged/ugly/short/difficult 80s games when people can just download piratey free ROMs.
Besides, the promess of the ENTIRE catalog of games seems rather unreal to me.
Somehow, I don’t picture “ Bible Adventures” , “Anticipation” or “ Captain Novolin” in there (I own all these games in the flesh ...or at least I used to...GISEL!!!! lol) seeing as these where awful games that nobody gave a shit about. We also have third party games like Nickelodeon’s GUTS for example. That program died a million years ago, are they still gonna sell the game? How’bout Pirates of the Black Water? Or Rocky Rodent? Totally obscure games by 3rd parties Id love to see, but I doubt they’ll come back.

Oh well! Heres hoping! Prove me wrong Nintendo! And you’ll have your prodigal daughter back :3

Next thing I wanted to talk about, is the way graphics have evolved since the beginning of video game consoles. I mean. WOW!
Holy phucksticks! Things look so freakin REAL! It makes me wonder whats gonna be next? There will eventually come a time where..graphics will be so real, there wont be anymore room to go..I mean, besides the Virtual Reality shmuck and all. Damn!
Its amazing how things we used to think looked freaking unbeatable ( like for example, FF7’s CG movies) now look SO outdated!

Which brings me to the next point.
Final Fantasy 7.
Oh my.

This might be the game (or RPG) with the single biggest cult following. Cult or mainstream..whatever, count me in. Im one of those.

You guys saw that PS3 demo movie?! Holy crap! For those who didn’t see it, it showed the beginning of FF7 but in today’s graphics. It is every fanboy/girl’s DREAM!
A remake of FF7! THE remake of the game that started it all!
But NO!
They don’t have plans. Or so they say.

I don’t care, they should DO IT! I know Ill buy 2 copies blindfolded

See, the thing is, FF7 NEEDS a remake.
Games like FF6 are masterpieces too, but their graphics doesn’t make them look outdated. They look classic.
Its classic, cuz its in 2D sprites.
Its perfect, cuz nowadays you can do the most perfect sprite/pixeled game, at chances are, it will look like FF6, or some other SNES game.
It’s a style.

But in FF7, the CG, the polygons, the un-intended jagginess…it all looks outdated.
I love it with all my heart, but, just cuz its in 3D, a tool/technique that has been perfected with time (and will keep pushing it’s boundaries some more) , anything that was 3D back then looks outdated or ugly as hell.
That’s 3Ds weakness.
You don’t have the same problem with 2D, do ya?

Well yeah, before this turns into a war of 2D VS 3D, Im gonna repeat what every single fan has already told Squaresoft…I mean..SquareEnix (blegh):

REMAKE FF7!

I bet they are gonna pull the same thing Nintendo did with that new Zelda game on us …. I hope so!
